The Schwarzenberg floating channel is the greatest technical sight in the Šumava region. It begins near the monument with the Rosenauer reservoir that unfortunately has a broken dam today. It flows into the Große Mühl River in Austria and in this way it binds the catchment area of the Vltava and Dunaj River.
Originally the channel was built for floating blockwood from inaccessible parts of Šumava Mountains to Vienna. Later it was adjusted to enable floating of up to 24 m long logs. The lengths of the actual channel is 44 km. It was supplied with water from 27 brooks, 3 reservoirs and Plešné Lake.
